Project 365 update

I'm very lucky to live in an area of beautiful parks and woodland. This photo from Sunday is of a gate that we pass on one of our regular walks. The gate marks the entrance to a nature reserve, great for a weekend amble.

Taken with my iPhone
This photo shows just one section of the gate, there are spiders, flowers, squirrels and so much more all immortalised in this metal work of art.

Sketchy Sunday no. 53

Well, it's a years worth of sketches completed and to be honest I did contemplate stopping there, but then Sunday morning arrived and it didn't seem right to just sit watching Sunday Brunch without mapping out my sketch. So, here we have it sketch no. 53.

I'm determined to use more of these sketches, as I always find my layout comes together so much quicker when I do. The big time sucker for me is deciding which photos to scrap, that's what I really need to work out a process can take days! I don't do chronological, it's all about what takes my fancy and maybe that's what slows me down, but I enjoy having no rules.....I'm a little rebel really.

Now for a little crafty catch-up. I have developed a bit of a box obsession and have been making them in a myriad of sizes and forms. This little number is one of several drawer style boxes I have made recently, topped with a little easel card. I am so not a card maker, but I find I can make mini cards and it made sense to combine them with my boxes. I wanted to make something a little more masculine - and what's more manly than a survival kit? It's surprising just how much you can fit in a mini drawer, everything in the photo fit in....snugly, but it did fit. Add a needle and thread to complete the kit.

If you'd like to make your own version then here's a link to the instructions Survival gift box.
It's a neat little gift that can be themed to any hobby, a little sewing kit, knitting accessories, golf tees, you get the idea.

So, that's it for today. Enjoy your Sunday and hopefully get a little crafting done or at the very least planned.

Happy Scrapping.

Project 365 update

Phones have changed the way we document our lives, now most of us carry a camera at all times and there are probably more photos taken now than at any time previously.

The photos may not always be the best, but many times they capture life in a more real way. Maybe because we take them with barely a thought or maybe just because conveniently we have a camera to hand, so we’re capturing more than we would have pre-phone. A lot of the time I take multiple snaps and those photos, kept smaller, are perfect for my mini books or multi-photo layouts……although that’s not to say today's phones don’t have good cameras and in good light or even not so good, they can take great photos.

Ray put a great little book in my Christmas stocking, The Art of iPhonography, which really shows what you can do with the right apps and a little creative thought, great for those instagrammers out there.  I use my iPhone a lot for my 365 project – a photo a day – and for those moments when I just spot something out on my travels. And then of course there is the dreaded selfie - I would never have bothered taking photos of myself if it wasn’t for my phone and maybe that’s the biggest change in scrapping for me – more layouts featuring me! Now, maybe that’s not such a good thing, but you know what it’s like when you find a box of old photos you always look for those ones of yourself, how you’ve changed and that monstrosity that was your favourite outfit or hairstyle – oh, yes we all have those pictures.

And finally on the subject of photos, just to keep you posted in terms of my Project 365 here's my pick from last week.

Sketchy Sunday no. 52

Well, here we are 52 sketches completed, a whole years worth. If I'm honest there were weeks when I doubted hitting number 52.

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to do all the layouts for the sketches as I originally intended, but I did manage a few and it's undoubtably very handy having a whole file of sketches to refer to.

I'm actually working on a layout at the moment based on this sketch. It seems right that at the very least I should have a page completed based on this one to mark the big 52 week milestone.

Now for a quick look at one of my latest projects for Docrafts. This Easter mini egg dispenser is simple to make and add a few chicks - I picked up these in Waitrose £1 for eight - to really pump up the Easter theme. The papers are available on the Docrafts website as part of their free downloads

If you'd like to make your own version then here's my instructions Easter egg dispenser.

Have a happy scrappy Sunday.

Project 365 update

It's Monday and that means we are ready for my pick of last weeks 365 photos.

Being a lover of food in general it's not unusual for me to take snaps of whatever is put in front of me at breakfast, lunch, dinner or supper - yes that's right, count them four, yes four meals - most days it's just the three...honest!

This was a dessert, a fairly unusual event for me, that polished off a last minute carvery at the local Toby - I class this, rightly or not, as a guilt free meal out as we generally eat a huge amount of veg there. This dessert was a little bit of a celebration and being as it was was a freebie, how could I not?

Sketchy Sunday no. 51

Happy Mother's Day to all you mums out there and I hope your family are spoiling you rotten, as you so rightly deserve.... it's your day, so enjoy it.

Now for the rest of us it's Sunday, so why shouldn't we relax too. My plan involves a little bit of a walk, Ray is rustling up a warming dinner of sausages, tons of veg and his wonderful onion's gorgeous and a treat as we don't normally have sausages, but I do love 'em. Then it's a bit of crafting and a slump in front of the telly with a movie, today's offering is Nightcrawler starring Jake Gyllenhaal - all this topped off with the traditional boiled eggs and soldiers for supper and a TV catch-up from my beloved TIVO. A perfect plan even if I do say so myself,

So, no doubt you haven't dropped by for a rundown of my Sunday, you're here for today's sketch.

This sketch is great for those occasions when you've got plenty of photos you love and you just can't whittle it down any solution, use them all!

Have a great day and get a little creative if you have the time.

Happy Scrapping.

Project 365 update

Well, the sun came out and being as we're lucky enough to live on the edge of a lovely park it goes without saying, when the sun shines, off we trot.

So, this Sunday found us following our regular circuit of the park and wildlife sanctuary on our doorstep, roughly a 5mile walk. On non-training days we generally do this walk every day in fine weather, so get used to nature pics as there will be more.

I didn't fancy lugging my Nikon DSLR so I took my new Panasonic Lumix compact camera and managed to snap a few photos of the changing foliage.

I do like this kind of composition and the model doesn't complain! I had to shoot on sport mode as it was still pretty breezy out, but it worked as most of the pics came out well. I'm pleased with that new little Lumix.

I hope you managed to get out and enjoy the finer weather and let's hope there's more to come soon.

Happy Scrapping.

Sketchy Sunday no.50

Woohoo, the big 50 is here....sketches that is, I've got a year and a bit to go yet before my own half century!

So, in an effort to keep things different I thought I'd do a grid based sketch. These always come out well and are so easy to use for cards or layouts, with plenty of options for photos and journaling.

Ok, it's short and sweet today as I'm off to do a little crafting for Docrafts...loads of ideas, but so little time. I'm sure we're all in the same boat, there's just never enough time to do it all. So, make the most of your Sunday and cram in a little crafting.

Happy Scrapping.

Project 365 update

I know, I almost can't believe it myself, but yes I am on time with my post. Make the most of it as it probably won't happen again.....but we can hope.

This week I've decided to share my favourite boots. I love these bad boys, they're Doc Martins and I've had them forever. They were found languishing in the clearance area at T K Max and I couldn't resist bringing them home with me. I think they're pretty much indestructible and are affectionately know as my 'am I bovvered boots'. This picture was snapped at work just before I changed offices and it felt right to snap them up on the desk while I supped my last cuppa there, sort of leaving my boot shaped mark.

Sketchy Sunday no. 49

The sketches are racking up and we're close to a full year now. I hope you've found them helpful in kick-starting the odd layout. I've even had a couple of messages saying the sketches have been converted for cards, which is great.

My efforts to make a layout for each sketch have been abysmal, but I have used some and I will definitely use more. It's just that I haven't made many layouts recently, a situation I must rectify....but you know how it is, things just get in the way sometimes.

Anyway, enough of my excuses here's sketch no. 49.

I couldn't help myself, I just had to add a's that new die set, I just can't resist it!

Now, for the bargain hungry among you I picked up another acrylic makeup organiser at Poundland. This one is a different configuration and perfect for ink pads, spritzing inks as well as a few handy tools.

Have a lovely scrappy Sunday.
