Sweets for the sweet

I recently posted a photo of my new and possibly all time favourite - well for now anyway - die set. I mentioned in that post a project I'd already used them on which was an exclusive to the Docrafts design team, the project is now public on the site so I thought I'd share it here too.

This was a little pressie for Ray on Valentines Day, but I'm thinking it's a quick make to use for any sweet treat occasion. Mother's Day is coming and I can see me making a couple of these for some suitably mum-like sweets.

I printed my message using a different font for each word, an effect I'll definitely use again. The key I covered in silver glitter and the lock I spritzed with ink and then covered in 3d gloss - love that stuff.

If you'd like to make your own version you can find my instructions here chocolate gift box. While you're there check out the rest of the teams projects, they always come up with some great ideas.

I warn you I'm planning a little bargain hunting tomorrow so check back the weekend for my crafty finds.

Happy Scrapping.

Project 365 update

Eek! yes late again. What can I say I just plum forgot to post, even though I'd already sorted the photo out.

So here we have my photo choice from last week, the Dartford Bridge on route to visit my lovely mum and dad.

Our tiny car windscreen frames this pic, we drive a Daihatsu Copen, and the low seating position enabled me to get a great angle of the bridge supports.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you're keeping up with your photo projects.

Sketchy Sunday no.48

It's Sunday morning and inspiration is breaking through for me with a sketch below and an idea for a new project on the brew.

I'm hoping to carve out some crafty time today as Ray recently bought me a couple of goodies to play with, some embossing powder and new ink pads. I'm thinking the key dies I posted about recently would look great with embossed edges, maybe in gold.

Anyway, enough blathering here's the latest in the Sketch Sunday 48.

Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment, it really is appreciated. Happy Scrapping.

Project 365 update

Another week into my photo project and it's a little bit of a late post, but you know how it is with things not always going to plan.

It's only just struck me, we always hold hands while watching TV..... not just at the scary bits..... so it seemed only right to take a quick pic using my iPhone. It's nice to capture the little everyday nuances, don't you think?

Sketchy Sunday no.47

It's come around again, yes it's Sketchy Sunday and here's my latest offering sketch no. 47.

I love tri-photo sketches and this one is no exception. I always find three photos is a good number for a layout.

Now for an important reminder......when did you last back up your photo folder? I know it's not exciting, but if it was more than a month ago why not fire off a backup today. I recently bought myself a large flash drive which I've added into my backup routine. So, once a month I backup to an external drive and my new flash drive, as well as leaving the file on my laptop, I am seriously thinking of using the iCloud storage which has become a lot more affordable of late, so that may be my future routine, but for now this works for me.

Wooden you know it......

A week off work meant a bit of bargain hunting was on the cards and where better to visit than one of my favourite haunts, The Works.

There's always something worth picking up and this time there was more than one, but being me I got a little overexcited and managed to use one of my bargains before taking the all important snap....oops! So a brief description will have to suffice for that one.... for the princely sum of £1 they have a pack of six Papermania kraft small bags, they'd be great for a small mini book.

The next bargain, which I've managed to restrain myself from using long enough to take a pic, is here.

These wooden words are lovely and just one of several wooden embellishment packs they have at the moment, all priced at £1.

Now straying a bit off topic, but I have to share - this week I managed to get my hands on what is one of my favourite die sets of all time, the Xcut Locks and Keys set (XCU 503236  £12.95).

I can see me using these dies a huge amount, with all the different designs and separate key holes, they'll lend themselves to loads of projects from the grungy steampunk to glittery romantic.

I've already used them on a DT project which I"ll post here once it goes public.

Happy Scrapping....and shopping.

Project 365 update

It's a bit of a mad rush today, so just a quick post with a photo from my Project 365 for last week.

Taken with my iPhone

This gorgeous girl is my sister-in-law's furbaby, Pepper. It's a very rare photo as she's not one to sit still for any length of time. This was her having a breather after running several mad circuits around the living room.

Sketchy Sunday no.46

It's Sunday and, therefore, time for a new sketch. With plenty of room for your story and a grand total of five photos this is a great sketch for documenting a special celebration - You know, those times when there's always more than one photo you want to use.

And for those bargain hunters among you, these wooden elements make a lovely textured addition to embellishment clusters. Check out your local The Works store for these and more.

Nailing a bargain

I was picking up some nail varnish remover when I stumbled across these nail art tools, which look suspiciously like embossing tools to me and at £1 for the set, a must have bargain. If you'd like to pick some up check out your local Poundland.

It's worth checking out the beauty departments for scrappy goodies. Beads, nail art decorations, emery boards - great for distressing edges and giving a neat finish on decoupaged boxes - and charms, they all make their way into my stash. So don't stop at the crafty aisle, have a look around you never know what you might find.

Happy hunting.

Sew lovely...

I love an altered box and one of my favourite types to use are these cheap little Pick-up-Sticks boxes.

I covered this one in Papermania Little Meow papers, topped the lid with buttons - I use Anita's 3d gloss to adhere these, it's super strong - and added a cheapie pair of scissors from a sewing kit, they're completely unusable for anything, but I made them safe by gluing the blades together just in case. A little Capsule Collection crochet border around the base and the odd gem - I just can't stay away from the bling. I inked the top edge of the box to give a little more colour and there you have it.

The lid slides off to reveal an emergency sewing kit (minus the scissors glued to the top of the box) with a seam ripper to cut threads. I used an inked die-cut leaf left over from a previous project to hold a couple of needles and bead decorated dressmakers pins, I also added a pin to the tag on the box lid.

Decorating pins with small pearl and crystal beads really makes a pretty gift for any needlewomen in the family or just as a little added extra for mini kits like this one. Add a little 3d gloss to the top of the pin body and slide on your bead. another little dab at the bottom of the bead and you're set to go.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you've been inspired to have a go at something a little different.

Project 365 update

Another week into the Project 365 and I thought you might like a little insight into my Sketchy Sunday preparations.

I'm a complete glutton for notebooks....Ok, all stationery....and in my handbag you'll find a minimum of three notebooks at all times. Tea breaks at work will usually find me noting down project ideas or sketches - yes, that's where it starts - I rough out a sketch idea and then when I'm home I use my Scrapbook software to create the sketch proper before exporting as a jpeg, ready to pop on the blog.
So the photo I chose from last week is me roughing out a sketch. You'll notice the one with a line through it, this means I've already posted it on the blog.

Taken with my iPhone

The one I'm sketching in the photo was posted yesterday, so you can see how it changes from my original idea, but in this case the change was quite dramatic... I may use the original note as inspiration for another sketch in the series.

Like Project Life, I find Project 365 helps not only show the main events of the year, but also gives an insight into the everyday, you know those things we'll forget in a couple of years. I think this is why my album from the previous Project 365 is the most looked at, it really does capture the year.

Happy Scrapping.

Sketchy Sunday no.45

The weather has been atrocious so what better time to hole up indoors surrounded by your scrappy supplies and create.

This week's sketch is another multi-photo design, I love the flow of the flowers across the page and these could easily be substituted with different shapes.

I recently posted a crafty find showing one of my favourite items for altering - old style game or pencil boxes with the slide lids. So, I thought it time to show one of these finished projects.

This little beach memory box started life as a Dominoes box and now holds a tag mini book, a little glass bottle for shells, a pen and a bright bulldog clip to hold those holiday receipts. I used the Docrafts Beach Days 1 & 2 download sets of papers which I had printed at Costco in size 9" x 6" with a matt finish. I find that this gives a really nice finish with a bit more resilience and, at 22p a copy, much cheaper than printing at home. If you'd like to see the instructions on how to create your own version of this project then check out my gallery at

I'm currently working on a Pick-up-Sticks altered box, so watch out for that one in the future.

Happy Scrapping.
