Sketchy Sunday no.18

Another week rolls around and time for another dose of sketchy inspiration. Today's sketch calls for a number of embellishments and smaller paper pieces so break out your scrap file and use 'em up.

The embellishment squares are open to interpretation, small photos, journalling or even a mix of everything. This really can change the whole style of the page so do try different versions before gluing it down. I don't know about you but I'm not an immediate gluer. I move stuff around for ages before commiting and even then I've been know to peel it up and have another reshuffle, or more often realise I've missed out one of my layers...but maybe you're more of a decisive scrapper, either way have fun and create.

Happy Scrapping.

Sketchy Sunday no. 17

What a gorgeous week it's been so I don't suppose there's been a lot of crafting done, especially if like me you have a craft room in the gets a little toasty in there but in the brief time I ventured in I did manage to complete a design team project, which is a Christmas mini album and I'm currently half way through a layout based on sketch no. 12 - it's very pink!

Now to the reason you probably visited today, sketch no. 17.

This graphic design would be great jazzed-up using bold patterns and colours to create interest in the otherwise simple layout. A strong central image with two set-the-scene backup photos would probably be the way I'd take it, but the great thing about scrapbooking is we all create in different ways so run with it and see what you come up with. Taking a second glance at the sketch I think it would also work well as a card....hmmmm I may attempt card number 4.

Now to the latest bargain, Hobbycraft currently have a sale on and I managed to pick up these punches for the impressive sum of £2 each. The larger one is a 2" punch and the smaller a 1" so it really was a great deal. They also had stars and border punches for the same prices.

Docrafts have also just bought out a new Christmas product line with some great must haves at bargain prices. I just had to pick up the jingle bells as the mix of colours and sizes made them perfect for hanging from the side of my latest project, the Christmas mini album, and a steal at £1.25 a pack, along with some festive ribbon from the same range for just £1 a roll. The Letter to Santa paper line is also a lovely festive foil enhanced paper pack and thick enough to make folded mini albums, prices range from £4.00 for the paper packs.

Have a lovely scrappy Sunday and hope you visit again soon.

When in doubt......use 3d foam

The Creativity Club Design Team were recently asked/challenged to create a World Cup layout that didn't relate to football!!! The brief was it had to be a layout based on a country in the World Cup and being as I have a number of photos from the States it seemed the obvious choice.

Now to the hiccup in this magnificent plan....I wanted to have a food based layout, I loved every meal on my trip to the States, but once I picked the photos and paper line I realised the photo didn't exactly cut the mustard. The composition was off and didn't quite capture the hugeness of the breakfast, but combined with another photo it would convey the whole eating extravaganza's where the 3d foam pads come I mounted the first picture and then adhered it to the layout. I then carefully cut around the plate image on the second photo, layered and inked it before mounting on foam pads and adhering to the layout, overlapping the main image. A few cropped photos from my trip and business cards from the diner, also on foam pads, captured the mood I was after.

Paper line - Papermania Midnight Blush Capsule Collection

This was the first time I'd cut around an image rather than just crop it and it worked out really least I think so. It's a technique I will try again and combining it with the foam pads creates an interesting depth to the layout which isn't fully conveyed by this image but you get the idea.

Happy Scrapping.

Sketchy Sunday no. 16

Hi again my fellow scrapaholics, I hope you've had an inspirational week and have been crafting up a storm but just in case you're in the market for a layout prompt here we have it......Sketch no.16.

I know it's a little different from my usual fare but I don't want you to think I'm a three trick pony so I'm doing my best to give you a little variety on the sketch front.

This week I've also discovered the joy of iPhoto. I use Photoshop Elements on my laptop but to be honest my laptop is starting to struggle....age gets to us I thought I would have a go on my still sparkly new iPad mini and I have to say I was amazed at how simple and intuitive it was to give my photos that little extra punch. If you have one of the Apple products just give it a go, it really is a great little app. Oh no! I hear you cry, she's turned into Apple girl and yes it's true, I admit it I'm a goner....I now lust after all the Apple kit, hanging round Apple stores, browsing the shelves of cases and accessories for kit I don't even own, they got to me and the sad thing is.......I'm not even sorry.

Happy Scrapping.

Fowls and Festivities

As if you hadn't guessed, my layout plan didn't exactly work out this week so I thought it would be a  good time to post a couple of my other layouts.

The first is a simple but story based layout, rather than just a fav photo. I used cheap chipboard oversized alphas from The Range and Adornit letter stickers for the title, love those little alphas. I lightly inked the chipboard and then adhered, overlapping the letters to fill the lower edge of the layout.

The bookplate was one of a job lot of twenty that I picked up on that well known auction site for a song. A little application of bling and glossy paper from a DCWV stack (don't ask me which one) make the page brighter than it seems but really it's all about the story.

The next layout is from my 365 album, I've posted a couple of layouts from this album before, one of which used the same photo-strip design element.

The title on this page is made up of inked and glittered grungeboard numbers and a variety of inked chipboard frames combined with more cute mini alphas topped with Anita's 3d gloss finish. I hand cut the banner pieces and adhered them with glue dots, just to give a little height and then curled up the ribbon edges slightly. For the tag I applied peel off stickers and inked over the top before peeling them off to reveal the uninked image.

I am seriously considering another 365 album for next year. I enjoyed this project so much more once I relaxed about the week per page idea and just completed the odd month layout or week depending on how much time I had and what I wanted to record. The album is one I find myself paging through quite frequently and as I didn't purchase any supplies specially it was not something that needed a massive outlay, always good.

I hope you'll stop by tomorrow for the latest Sketchy Sunday post but in the meantime.....Happy Scrapping.

Sketchy Sunday no. 15

Well, that week flew by and before I knew it I hadn't posted all week, so slapped wrist for me, I will try to do better. However, I have not missed the sketch and so here we are with sketch no. 15.

I did find time to take some photos of our friend's beautiful daughter Larissa and I'm determined to scrap a layout with some of those sometime this week, if life doesn't get in the way. I was lucky enough to receive the new Wild Rose Capsule collection from Docrafts and being a lovely pink set of papers and embellishments it is crying out to be used with the photos.

I posted this quick make for my most recent #docraftsmonday project on Facebook. I've been trying to come up with less obvious ways of using some of the new products in the Docrafts Bare Basics line, so this little owl came in for some serious inking and spritzing with gold before being combined with some suitable photos to create a little hanging mini album.

Watch out for my efforts with the Bare Basics House.

The other good news, for me at least, is I've started to see some Christmas papers coming onto the market, so now if I can only find some frosty ones I can get on with the mini advent houses. Do let me know if you see anything suitable, preferably a stack or pack.

Have a lovely scrappy Sunday.
