Clip and Shine

I don't know about you but I have a terrible weakness for anything shiny or glittery, so a collection of gems in mini bottles with little cork stoppers was irresistible and at £2 guilt free. If you like the look of these trot along to The Range (check their website for your local store http://www.therange.co.uk ). I have crafty plans for the empty bottles as well, I think they'd look great attached to a mini book spine.

I also picked up a couple of sets of these paperclips at Tiger (http://www.tigerstores.co.uk ). The hearts were the grand sum of £1 and the hangers £2.

Project Life or 365?

There's been a huge increase in the number of people doing Project Life over the past few years. I get that it's a great way to document the everyday quickly and easily, I just can't get into the photos and ready made cards style of scrapping much as I would like to. The fact I hate my handwriting...I know I'm not alone in that one...probably plays into this as well. That's not to say I don't think Project Life is gorgeous because I do it's just not for me, well not at the moment anyway, maybe if I learn to embrace my scrawl. However I do love the whole documenting 'every day life' thing and in 2011 I did a 365 project. It's basically a photography version of project life where you take a photo a day (or whatever time-frame you set) and I decided to create a scrapbook using these photos.

I didn't set a rule for how many photos on a layout, I just did what felt right for that time period, so in my album there are quite a few pages where it's a single week and then I did some that are a series of months. I really like how the album turned out, it's interesting and I didn't buy specific supplies so it made a fair sized hole in my stash.

I also discovered a great app, Project 365 Pro which I'm going to use for next year as I think 2015 seems like a nice round number to have another go and it'll be easier using my phone than carrying a camera around. You can even output the monthly file from the app as a single image which looks great for a layout.

Anyway, here's a few pages from my album just to give you a flavour.

Sorry about the reflection on this one, just couldn't get rid of it.

See what I mean about it being interesting?

#Docraftsmonday

It's #Docraftsmonday on Facebook so for loads of inspiring projects pay the Docrafts page a visit.

Here's my effort this week, it's card no.4 for me and I used the Papermania Bellisima product line plus a few self adhesive gems (well there's a surprise!).

To photograph the card I used the little easel from the set I bought last week. I think it gives a more  professional look to the photo so I'll keep my eyes peeled for a bigger one to use for layouts.

Sketchy Sunday no. 5

The week does roll around and I hope you've found time to chill out and maybe do a little crafting, after all you should always make time for what you love. I've had quite a busy week completing a project for my design team so I haven't been able to create from last weeks sketch.... I was always going to fall behind....but just in case there are some of you out there who are following the sketches and are far more organized than I am I'll continue to post the sketches every Sunday if at all possible, so here's the latest.

Nail Art to Alpha Art

After a heavy but fun day crafting yesterday I decided on a little retail therapy and on my travels I spotted this....

A set of microbeads for nail decor. Now I'm thinking that I can combine these with a little of my fav 3D clear gloss finish on some chipboard alphas or as flower centers and it will look pretty good and then the bottles will make great embellishments in their own right, they even have little loops on top perfect for ribbon ties. At £1 for a set at Poundland it's worth experimenting.

The Eyes Have It

Do you have one of those photos that really strikes you, this is one of mine. I really love the way the eyes just pop and Esme the Eurasian Eagle-Owl was a great model. This was taken at Tropical Wings last year and is just one of a series that I took at the birds of prey demonstration.

I used the Gorjuss paper line from Docrafts for this layout and the subtle palette really enhances the vivid photograph. I still like to use eyelets on my layouts, even though they have fallen somewhat out of favour, I think with some ribbon tied through them they are still a great embellishment but maybe it's just me as I don't see a lot of them on other projects, still it's my layout and I like it.

The other thing I use a huge amount of is Anita's 3d clear gloss, to add dimension or to adhere those heavier embellishments nothing beats it. It's great stuff and at £1.75 a tube an absolute bargain as it lasts forever.

Here's the 3d clear gloss finish in action.

Crafty Finds

As always when out and about I'm always on the prowl for a crafty bargain. Today I specifically wanted to get a couple of small jars for some beads I've been using to make bead sprays, so first port of call was Tiger where I know they had some and luckily for me they still did.

At two for £1 they were cheap and perfect for the beads. They come with different colour lids if you like a bit of variety (check out their website for your local store www.tigerstores.co.uk ).

I also picked up this mini easel with canvas for £1 to decorate at some point, I'm thinking maybe a mini layout.

#docraftsmonday

It's #docraftsmonday and after dipping a toe in card making I decided to have another go with a lighter palette. So here it is, made using the Papermania Oyster Blush paper line it's prettier in real life as the papers all have a subtle glimmer to them. I added some iridescent glitter glue to the petal edges and the flourishes to bling it up a little more.

I really like this paper line it's romantic feel would make it ideal for wedding or christening layouts.

The Easter Hunt

I decided to make a little box project for Easter. The idea was that not everyone has a garden to stage Easter Egg hunts so I made this box of Easter cards, each of which you can write a clue on for the egg hunt.
I'm probably going to just use it as a mini album as it works equally well for that.

I used a free paper download from the Docrafts Creativity Club, I actually get the papers printed up as 9 x 6 photos at Costco for 22p each which works out better for me as my printer seems to use ridiculous amounts of ink on these.

Anyway, if you'd like to have a go at this project here's the box pattern.

#Docraftsmonday

It's come around again, that's right it's #Docraftsmonday and for a complete change I made a card, my first ever. I used scraps leftover from a couple of layouts recently completed using the Gorjuss paper line from Docrafts.

I thought the colours lent themselves to missing someone who's away from home for work or study so a 'miss u' card seemed fitting. It can mean a lot to someone who's a little homesick to know they're being missed too.

I may venture further into card making as after a tentative start I did enjoy the process and obviously it's a quicker make so easier to squeeze in between work and housework as well as being great for using up my scraps.

Sketchy Sunday

This sketch was a bit of a new direction for me, more shabby than I'm used to but I do like to try different techniques now and again just in case I stumble across something I excel at.... I can dream.
I've completed a layout inspired by this sketch but at the moment I can't post it as it's due to be published on Docrafts website, once it goes live there I'll post it here.

I hope you're inspired to create.

Christmas is coming!

Ok, so I may be jumping the gun with thoughts of Christmas but I have twenty four mini advent houses to decorate so time is passing by.

I picked up this set of  advent houses in the Hobbycraft sale in mid January for £10, which I thought was an absolute bargain.

I finally started the project this week with house no.1. My inspiration was an advent I decorated previously in icy tones. This one was originally a very cheap gaudy advent sold by Tesco's but at £6 was worth picking up to decorate. When I realised how much I enjoyed the process I went to get half a dozen to do as pressies but they'd sold out and haven't had them since (a good four years ago), I kicked myself. Anyway, this is the decorated version.

So the mini houses will be decorated to coordinate with the big advent, which means I'm now on the lookout for suitable papers and will be buying iridescent glitter glue by the bucket load. I'll post the
houses as they're completed so you can follow my progress.

Here's no. 1 in all it's sparkly glory.

What came first the sketch or the layout?

Well in this case it was the layout. The sketch I posted on Sunday was based on this page.

I really liked the simplicity of the design while still using up loads of those scraps that I always seem to have left from any paper line. I used several ink pads to give a subtle mottled effect to the originally white tags and then just added glitter stickers which I coloured with a permanent marker to blend in further. The long flourishes were created using die cut flourishes which I chopped and reassembled to create longer lengths covering the odd join with a die cut flower. The papers are from the Art Deco range by Docrafts.

#docraftsmonday

It's come around again, yes it's #docraftsmonday and here's my 'Simples' layout. Made using the Gorjuss paper range and some other Docrafts products, it's a subtle palette which is outside my comfort zone but I'm actually growing to love it.

Pop over to the Docrafts page on Facebook for more inspiration.

Sketchy Sunday

I hope everyone is having a great relaxing and crafty weekend and if you're based here in the UK you haven't been suffering too much with the air quality issues this past week.

Ok, so it's Sketchy Sunday and here's this weeks sketch.

I'll be posting my layout before next Sunday.

Toowit Toowhat?

Well here's my effort. I completed this layout today based on the sketch I posted last Sunday. This layout was also inspired by the March challenge in the Docrafts scrapbooking forum.

I used the Docrafts Gorjuss paper line and a mixture of chipboard alphas that I've accumulated over time and just have stored in a box all mixed up together so I don't know what brand they are, sorry. I covered the alphas in various Stickles colours that I have pretty much used up, so this was a good layout to use them on as I only needed a tiny bit of each. I cut and punched some butterflies, some are covered in Anita's 3d clear gloss and some I adhered to the layout with 3d foam pads just to make it all a little more interesting. I stuck a few Anita's outline sticker butterflies to acetate, cut them out and scattered them around with one on the title and lastly I added a few adhesive gems because I just can't resist a bit of bling.
